01 · The place

Twenty-four kilometres of freshwater, ringed by red gums, on the Sturt Highway between Mildura and the South Australian border.

Tranquil Waters has been the caravan park on the lake's eastern shore since 1984, run today by Maureen and her family, the same way it's always been.

It's a small park by design: powered sites close to the water, grassy tent spots under the gums, and a playground and pump track for the kids. Fire pits are supplied, and there's usually a pelican or two on the lake.

03 · On the water

Big lake. Lots to do.

Fish for redfin and yellowbelly from the bank or the jetty. Paddle out at first light, when the water's like glass. Or just sit by the fire pit and watch the pelicans go past.
